Abstract
Modern ideas about the structure and functional role of membrane contact sites in eukaryotic cells are considered. It is shown that coordination of cellular metabolism is carried out through a network of contact centers between membranes of different organelles. The understanding of the mechanisms of functioning membrane contact sites will give the opportunity to control cell metabolism and effectively generate protection against stress.
