Abstract

The work was devoted to comparative study of the effect of 100 nM methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and 44 nM 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) on the growth parameters and integrity of membrane structures of wheat plants subjected to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-simulated drought. Treatment of wheat plants with BAP or MeJA under normal growth conditions had a similar growthstimulating effect. At the same time, pretreated with hormones and stressed plants were characterized by maintaining the intensity of growth processes and the integrity of membrane structures at the level close to control. The obtained results can serve as evidence in favor of our earlier assumption that endogenous cytokinins fulfill the role of hormonal intermediates in the growth-stimulating and protective effects of MeJA on wheat plants under normal and stress conditions.
