Abstract

Using the model of water deficiency (WD), the anti-stress properties of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine N-acetylcysteinate (3-OP) were studied. WD led to a 3-fold increase in the intensity of LPO in the membranes of mitochondria of etiolated pea seedlings and a 30% decrease in the maximum rates of oxidation of NAD-dependent substrates. 10-9 M 3-OP prevented the activation of LPO in mitochondrial membranes, which ensured efficient operation of the electron transport chain of mitochondria and increased the resistance of seedlings to WD.
